Pretty cool! I'm up there in the top 100 (probably between 30 and 70) at 2692 members and growing (we still have around 1500 known people to add).
Would it be possible to show our tree ranking in the tree view (something like 72 of 3400 trees)?
Thanks!

Wow! I've got a LOT of late nights ahead of me before I can touch the #1 tree (need 9700 more profiles before I can get up that far)! Of course once the GEDCOM import is functional there's close to 300,000 names ready to be uploaded to the Hibbard tree!
Thanks for the stats Noah, it's great to get updates like this!

You're going to scare them with that "300,000" stat. Now they're never going to alpha test that import feature! :)

No way I'm ever gonna get there. Most people who are invited to Geni visit once and never come back. More Web 2.0 stuff is needed to keep it interesting or Geni is gonna head for TechCrunch's deadpool.

@severud: be patient.... I know someone in my tree has been searching for new familymembers for 30 years now ;-). And our +13.000 are still 'handfed', so you can get there as well. It's nice to have the largest tree, but it's even nicer to meet new familymembers this way (very far familymembers sometimes ;-) ). I do love the connection in our tree with other families. Now genealogy is not something 'about dead people' only anymore. It's what the subtitle says: we're all related. And through Geni even connected!! So a big thanks again to the Geni team.

LOL, true, i should never have mentioned the 1/3-million profile GEDCOM file!!! In fact, when I open it with my Gene-program it takes my computer like 10 minutes to calm-down (and I've got the latest system with 16GB ram and a tera-B hard drive system!)

Brother...you've got to build it yourself!!! Start investigating your great grandfather's and go from there, you can do it!!! I'm so obsessed I've stayed up all night for months and added almost 3,000 profiles! I'm even thinking that this is affecting my career, I'm trying not to log on at work but it's sooooo addictive...I'm fearing getting fired as well as getting divorced, lol!!!

I'll build it myself with PhpGedView but Geni.com is about Web 2.0. You know, the social factor along with a slick interface. My point wasn't about becoming the largest tree. A large tree with no one behind each profile contributing photos, info, and such is rather boring. This is supposed to be friendster/myspace for your family but there just isn't the pull to make it so just yet. Isn't the point of Geni that it is trying to do something _different_ and _new_ with Genealogy? Otherwise, no need for the Webware 100 award.

Yes, but you must admit that a tree with a ton of history and a ton of profiles has motivated over 50 of my family members to join and start populating all the data you mentioned! When i first started with just a handful of people ony me, my brothers, and my aunt joined and started building it. Other's joined but never visited, but once i grew the tree over 3000 relatives everyone got excited and started going nuts with adding all the information, connecting their sides of the family, and emailing everyone they could. We even connected us to a co-working my brother has in Texas (we're in NY/NJ) that has the same surname and now her side of the family is going to town.
Anyway, I didn't mean to sound like it's some kind of tree-building contest!

Idea for a feature (or prize): The person with the largest tree should get recognition on the homepage. You could call it the "Abraham Prize" :-)
(If you're stumped, go read your copy of the Old Testament.)

That's an awesome idea! Have the top-10 or rop-100 tree info on a landing page or something (maybe even a GENi-stats page that users can navigate to).

ScotHibb, I too am having trouble keeping up with my work because of this Geni, and I'm retired. My house work is not being done, my yard needs mowing and the garden is overgrown, but I have been able to put all the information I had about the family onto one system, and I've connected with many family members who I never spoke to. I just had a thought. With all the work that you and your family members are doing with your family tree and with all the people you already have on it, maybe I can just stop what I am doing and wait until your branch connects to mine.

Lol, I had the same thought many times! Why don't you save yourself the wait time and send me some of your family hsitroy so I can cross reference it against my family history to see if a link lies therein. That way you would be able to sit back while I linked you in and not have to worry about spending too much time on it! But then again, that's the fun part of it, discovering links and spending sleepless nights and non-productive days at work plugging away at the GENi tree!!!!!

So once everyone finds a link to another family tree there will only be one tree. What then?
I've noticed there are people who like to receive public recognition (ok, bragging rights) about their trees. A few thoughts for consideration: 1) how much of the research/data is yours 2) do you have a family tree or a family history 3) isn't support for those with smaller trees or who are just starting out a much more noble expression of your experience than, "I am number such-and-such". The fact of the matter is there are people who would like to do this sort of thing but may be from a broken tree, not even know who their parents are, etc.
Admittedly, the top #s list is a cute if not very American way of gaining recognition but genealogy is something greater than that. Isn't it? Then again, what quantifies an entry? A name? Full data? What verification is there? How many "members" are in the tree? What trees have the greatest amount of geni members? Active members?
Keep digging...

OK, new request...
Can you add to the stats the following:
--Largest tree (you are already doing this, but just wanted to include it to remind you how important it is to have a db/gedcom INPORT functionality added ASAP)
--Oldest family member (i.e. X-member has a tree dating back to 2000bc)
--Widest tree (i.e. a tree with the largest ammount of buny trails)
--Tree with the most active members
--Tree with the most cross-over members (i.e. there are 30 trees with the same history)
--Tree with the largest database of family information (i.e. pictures, profile data, etc).Just a few of my latenight thoughts...time for another marnini...and yes, to reply to the previous poster, it IS VERY American. I can't possibly depart from the fact that I think very "American", especially since I work in the NYC area, but more so because my 6th great grandfather was one of the FIRST Americans to populate this land. In fact, My family was not only in Virginia prior to the pilgrams, they were also signers of the Mayflower Compact.
And also, it was my family that later fought the bloody british to own this GREAT country of OURS. Lol, happy FOUTH OF JULY!!! OK, time to shake up that aforementioned martini...

I can soooo relate to you guys. Even my children sometimes ask me if I'm on Geni again whenever I'm at the computer hihi. My husband often goes to bed leaving me with Geni :D. It's THE family-talk and this way some familymembers of mine have found a common NEW hobby hahahaahaha.
I like the stats ScotHibb is mentioning. In addition: Geni-members per country (or continent or city), fastest growing (some graphics?), most familynames in one tree (or would that be the widest tree). Ofcourse some stats are totally unusefull, but lots of fun!!!My husband had a strange suggestion: the average age... someone from 1500 would be 507 now. How higher this number how more old trees there are, they smaller the number, the more living active members. This is too weird for me but at his request ;-).
