We've just released some nice merging and collaboration enhancements:
Resolve conflicts without choosing parents - When resolving relationship conflicts in the tree (the yellow triangle with the exclamation point) you are no longer forced to choose parents to resolve other conflicts. Use the "No change" option when choosing parents to save your changes without choosing parents.
Suuuper stoked about this.

We've just released some nice merging and collaboration enhancements:

- Add manager - Use the "Add manager" action under the more menu on any profile you manage to add a manager. This will send a request to the user. If they accept, they will be added as an additional manager (you can choose to make them a primary or an alternate when you send the request). You will not lose management privileges.
- Relinquish management - When a profile has multiple managers, use the 'x' next to your name to relinquish management of the profile. If you do this you will no longer have any management privileges for that profile.

Use the "No change" option when choosing parents to save your changes without choosing parents.
- Data conflict manager row - We've added a row to the data conflict table so you will know which profile data goes with which manager. This additional information can help you determine which data is correct.
- Recently online collaborators - The collaborators settings page now includes a checkbox to include or remove collaborators from your recently online list.
- New GEDCOM options - We've added ancestor and descendant as options when you export a GEDCOM.
This is a nice list of features. I especially like the Recently Online changes. For the first time in about 6 months I actually recognize the names listed now :)
@Noah does the relinquish management ask for confirmation? I am somewhat nervous about losing management rights with a single misplaced click.
@ckey yes, you will be asked to confirm. If you are the primary manager, you will be told that the other manager will become primary (if there's only one) or if there are several editors you will be allowed to choose which becomes the primary.
Yay! Fantastic stuff, guys!
@noah: "Recently online collaborators - The collaborators settings page now includes a checkbox to include or remove collaborators from your recently online list."
It woul dbe very convenient to include this as a filter on your "List" Page, such as: 1. "All collaborators", 2. "No collaborators" pulldowns
@markm we may add collaborators to the group drop down (along with family, blood relatives, etc.). This would let you view and filter a list of your collaborators. Is this what you were thinking?
I'm clearly missing something here. Why would anyone ever want to relinquish management of a profile?
@dkaleita That is what I thought as well, but this feature has been requested. The only scenario I can imagine is if you add your distant cousins kids, let's say, and then they claim their profiles. Perhaps you would want to relinquish management of their kids' profiles.
Someone gave up management of a profile to me tonight without any explanation. I asked if they were giving on on the poor guy, and all they said was "yes".
*shrug* no idea.
I'm clearly missing something here. Why would anyone ever want to relinquish management of a profile?
I have done that for the kids I already had added for a couple who joined Geni. I had to push management first because they did not know how to request it.
I explained the needs for both needs here.
I have a similar need to relinquish profile because I added some people unrelated to me for the purpose of providing the correct linkages to invite someone to the tree. Now I don't want to manage them anymore.
However I can report that at least on my computer in Firefox and Safari, the "relinquish" X box does not work. I click it, I get a confirmation. I click the confirmation, and I get booted to a text-only page (no graphics, formatting etc) with the same confirmation message. Click the Relinquish link on that page does nothing. When I go back to check the profiles they have not been relinquished.
@cmstlist, I believe you merely sent a request that must be accepted, before you are removed.
So if a profile has 2 managers and one wants to relinquish, the other one has to consent to it??
What if there are ten managers... how many managers have to consent to let one manager relinquish the profile?
I would assume it's similar to making a merge request, where the requestor can choose to whom the request goes to via a drop down menu. But I can't say for sure.
@Noah - I like the add manager feature. Many of my relatives keep asking to manage the profiles but lack the skill to ask for management rights. So each time, there is a huge email chain before they request for and I grant them the management rights. Now I can initiate this. Fantastic.
It would be nicer if we could do this from the list view - typically someone would want management rights for the whole family of 5 to 25 profiles rather than just for one.
I just received notification that my request to be manager of profile x had been accepted, with a link to that profile, and there were Tom Dick and Harry plus 88 other managers but I was not on the list and I was not manager of one of the outstanding merge profiles either.
@PINKLE can you forward that email to help@geni.com and we'll investigate. Thanks.
