    I like the idea of a SuperUser makes a lot of sense. What you upload/create you own. For my own problem I solved it myself my deleting everyone who was not connected with the only other profile I was connected with (my sis-in-law). I'm left with only five people I cannot delete. Geni could have done this for me or at least suggested to me.

    I think Geni is a great site but this one thing is a deal breaker for me. If they ever brought in something like a SU I'd upload my gedcom in a heartbeat.

    @feenydev: This idea only makes sense to control freaks. Despite what you and others seem to think, information is not yours... you do not own/have patents to your relatives names/dob/dod/etc.

    This site is meant for sharing... not hoarding.

    Don't like it? Then go away.

    Information belongs to the world.

    Interesting JasonHerbert, since you wish for historical profiles to be locked and controlled by a group of "curators"

    Seems to me you are contradicting yourself...

    *Sigh*... only the illogical mind could refuse to grasp such a simple concept as administrators/moderators/curators.

    There is no contradiction here... a curators job would be to maintain the integrity of the data, but the information would still be open to/viewable by the world.

    Please go away od... arguing with you is like arguing with a child who has not yet reached the 'age of reason'... or a mental deficient.

    @feenydev: Thanks for your comments. Based on various responses I have seen, it is obvious to me that only FIRM stand GENI takes on various issues are " Be vague"..One example is the PET issue.

    At least they are consistently vague :-)

    Users made an enormous effort in translating all pages of Geni to other languages for 2 years. Geni never told these users they were wasting their time. It was always, "we are working on it" or "stay tuned".

    It's the same for those of us who are trying to clean up the "big mess" of the duplicate profiles and mergers. Geni is just looking the other way and ignoring the enormous effort some users put in to clean up the mess....

    @exceller we believe that it should be up to each user whether or not they would like others to have control over their profile. When a person is invited to Geni they take over control of their profile.

    @NOAH > Thanks for your views on this.I respectly disagree due to the following reasons.

    In any family , there are bound to be disagreements and misunderstandings etc and a disgrunteled family member may slander another family member in the GENI discussion forum and there is nothing one can do about it. This is bound to be big turn off for others.

    In the face book, if someone writes bad about me, I have the power to remove the comment without removing him/her from the friend's list. I beleive in facebook everyone has the power to remove the comments written on their wall. However this is the not the same in the case of GENI. My question is why not?

    I am still puzzled as to why GENI folks does not have the foresight to think through this and have a feature similar to FACEBOOK. Every discussion forum I have seen has a moderator except for GENI, which is Free for all

    I want GENI to succeed like FACEBOOK and want GENI to be my personal family facebook. (I have uploaded 3000+ photos in my photo album. (Just in 3 months). We exchange lots of family news etc. However in the absence of super user type controls, I am afraid these discussions will get out of control and there is no way for anyone to control it.

    It is obvious to me that GENI is struggling with 2 concepts (Being a pure Genealogy site for those Genealogy researchers or Family site for those who want to connect with their family and do not care whether they are related to Obama or Osama or some famous king in 1555). Both these groups have totally different agenda and GENI has to decide which path they want to focus.

    I am also begining to believe that GENI has not thought through the implications when they implemented facebook like features or discussion forums.

    Once again I respect your views. However sir, I respectfully disagree.

    Best Regards

    @Jason P Herbert: typical arrogant response I have come to expect from certain hardcore members of Geni.

    However think on this. I have been given all these bits of data in trust by my extended family. I do not have copyright, more importantly I am its custodian. If I am not free to leave Geni with all my data then I cannot trust them.

    @exceller The guestbook in your profile is the closest thing we have to the facebook wall. You can, in fact, remove any comment that anyone has left in your guestbook. Your family discussion is similar to a facebook group. You are not able to delete other user's postings to a group wall. And you certainly are not able to remove comments from a friend's wall just because you happen to be the first person who invited them to facebook.

    If you have family members that have issues with other family member, please suggest that they block the problematic user. This will prevent them from sending them messages, etc.

    @NOAH:

    My point is that even the comments on the discussion forum should work this way. Hence my request you have moderator atleast for discussion forums..

    Well Thanks fo ryour respons eany way.. Sometimes, when it comes to suggestions, I feel that I am banging my head against the great wall of China!

    @exceller I understand your suggestion. Please keep in mind that we need to balance your suggestions and desires with the rest of our users, so just because we don't implement all of your suggestions doesn't mean that we aren't listening.

    @Noah why is that you won't consider untangling trees when sites like Heritage and WeRelate will?

    </p>

    I'm sure Noah is going to be as confused as I am about that statement.

    I have an account over at MyHeritage, and they don't have a merged tree system. Every tree is stand alone. In fact I believe Geni is the only web-based Genealogy system that has a merged tree system.

    Geni hasn't put much time/effort into tools to separate trees because that is not their goal or the intention of the use of their software. Users can still use it that way as long as they never merge with another tree.
