My uncle recently passed away and there is no way for me to mark as Deceased. It is sending Birthday reminders to my entire family and upsetting people. I am the tree founder and I have poured over all of the options dozens of times and I cannot figure this out. What do I have to do?

Had he claimed his profile? If so, does anyone know his Geni password? If not, is there anyone who can access his e-mail (at the address he provided to Geni)?

If he did not claim his profile, who manages it?

    Sorry for your loss.

As in all other profiles: Open his profile and click "Edit Profile" under his profile picture and click on the Deceased marker and eventually add DOD.

If he manages his own profile (was a Geni user) you have to send a request to help@geni.com and ask if they could unclaim the profile and transfer his managed profiles to someone else.

To speed up this process this action should be confirmed by several of his close relatives and you should also come up with a name on the person who should inherit the profiles he was managing. He will, in respect of his work, still be listed as the origin (Added By) of the profiles he have added.

He did manage his own profile, but I do have the password and can get in. What are the steps I should take if I log in to his account?

Please accept our condolences on the loss of your uncle, and the untimely birthday reminders that your family received. If you are able to log in as him, you can close his account which will set his manager to the person who added him or, if that person is not managed, the nearest claimed family member. The manager can then mark this person as deceased.

I'm going to create a ticket for us to add "deceased" as a reason on the close account page, which will mark the profile deceased automatically.

As I said: Send a mail to help@geni.com explaining the situation, or even better: submit a support ticked at http://help.geni.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit

Remember to tell which profile you are talking about.

You should also take contact with your uncles email-provider if you want access to his email, but I guess the easiest solution is to borrow his PC because I will bet he have used auto-login to both Geni and other favorites places.

I suggest you make a procedure for making someones status deceased. And in that procedure, I would like not to involve other people, but complete the process quietly. Maybe sending an e-mail to that person, and if there is no reply, setting the status. I don't want to make other close relatives get a message like "Has your father deceased". Seems not quite right.

I submitted the ticket, ID is CPI-627954
