Attempted stacking results in self-marriages

Every once in a while when I try to stack someone in the tree view (by dragging nodes), the person ends up as their own spouse instead of their own self. This has happened 3 times in the last 2 days. I'm absolutely positive that I'm clicking "They're the same person" and not "Spouse/Partner." If this were a matter of my clicking the wrong link, I'd be much more likely to accidentally click "Mother" or "Daughter" than "Spouse/Partner" because of the proximity to the "They're the same person" link.

I've run into this myself several times. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it easily let you merge spouses or break the relationship. What happens is you have work to create a cycle, to then remove the connection, then fix the cycle. A long process which could leave your tree in worse shape than when you started if your not careful.

I've also encountered that problem. It seems less likely when one uses the "move" link than when one uses Control-click-drag.

In all cases I've seen, it can be explained by one of two hypothetical bugs:
    a) retaining data from a previous move (failure to flush/initialize buffers?)
    b) acquiring the wrong target profile while dragging en-route to the intended one

I've experienced something similar but not the same... I dragged and dropped a wife onto a 'add this person' node but when the tree refreshed the wife wasn't there but there was a husband! I have created a ticket for this.

Just for information's sake, I've never used the <CTRL>-click/drag method because I'd never heard of it. All of my errors were created with the move/drag node method.

    Same here. Move/drag node method.

Unfortunately what you're seeing is only a symptom of a problem that existed from some previous problem. That problem seems to lie undetected until you try to merge the profile, at which time it manifests as showing two profiles as spouses when they should not be.

If you've got a procedure for reliably reproducing it, I'd be very interested to know what it is. I've been tracking this problem for months now, and my best guess at this point in time is that it's the result of the tree-based conflict resolution wizard timing out or otherwise encountering an error that prevents it from completing. I know you've had that problem too, Erin, so this reinforces that theory.

I'm not sure. It doesn't tell me it's timing out when this happens. It (the tree-based resolution conflict function of Geni) indicates that the stack was created successfully. I will keep paying attention and see if I can make any sense of it.

@mike - the main reason for re-stacking is that the main profile manger does not collaborate, and this is also the situation when this mostly happens.

The key seem to be that you don't have edit-access to the main profile.
