Holy Crap! The World's Largest Geni Tree is on FIRE!!!

MAN!!! I spent a few days watching the world's largest Geni Tree SLOWLY grow by a few hundred an hour, trying to calculate when it would finally break the 3-Million mark...then Friday rolled around and we were only 29,000 short of breaking 3MM, so I went home and spent a few hours preparing a totally new, non-duplicate GEDCOM file to import so I could be "the one" responsible for breaking the 3-Million mark (yes, a bit juvenile, but I like having FUN with the seriousness of genealogy and also like being able to talk to my family and friends about "firsts"...so back off, it was all in fun and in the end it doesn't matter at all, EVERYONE'S RELATED).

ANYWAY...I was joking with Mike and the G-Team that if they would lift the limit on GEDCOM import I could have the tree to 3.6MM profiles by the first week in December, thus bringing us close to breaking 4,000,000 profiles by 2009. I then predicted that we WOULD break 4MM by the New Year regardless of GEDCOM limitations, but I really didn't think it was going to happen...until today!!! I just checked and my Total Connected TO number is NOW ~3,350,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So before I pass out for 2.5 hours before I have to wake up to start cooking for 25+ people coming to my house for Thanksgiving tomorrow (today rather) I just wanted to say how blown away I am that the tree's exponential growth is CRAZY right now and at this rate we will definitely break 4-million by the end of the year!!!!!!!!

I really hate you (again) for been such a G+F-Troll (Geni+Forum) . I saw it and was sure that I will be the first to anounce it :-/

Yes, whomever merged a 3k profile toady/yesterday did brought us a few k's closer to the 4m mark :-)

Still mee and my 600 blood relatives, are steadily increasing our connected connections :-)

Thet thing is that trees are merged all over Geni, and are increasing all the time. I am sure that there are other large trees. Are there?

Come on, stand up all you with 50k plus trees, let us hear your voices.

LOL, you really love to gloat and "take credit" for efforts put in by people you haven't the foggiest idea of who they are. Yeah it IS really cool that you are part of one whopping big tree, 16,000 Hibbards and all, but please...

Here I was thinking "MY tree" was almost as big as "yours", with 3.35 million people as well, and then it hit me... [ quick Geni search for Hibbard ] "OMG we're on the same damn tree", and you would be REALLY pressed to find a link between old-blue-blood New England, and us poor 19th century Jewish immigrants from Russia, now with many thousands of family members in Israel (and the world). And that's even before i begin to *manually* enter the many thousands in my Mother-in-law's Shaag-Zwebner tribe (and their connections). 4 million, here we come!

Enjoy your turkey, and let's chill out a bit, eh?

@shmuelakam hopefully we'll give you a feature soon that will tell you exactly what the relationship between your ancestors and scothibb's are.

Yes but when are you going to merge your own duplicates?
There's tons of them in the uber-tree.

I was thinking the same when i saw that : "You are connected to 3,379,948 people on Geni" and did the same and damn we're in the same tree too !!
Can't wait to see how we're related !

still only related to 4,600+ people - would REALLY love to be able to see who they ARE! (yes, I've cllicked forest, does not good).
but I continue to add distant relatives, and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

    Hi Scott,
Since you have such a huge tree, I would tend to presume you've added every relation you could find.

How do you just "go home, spend a few hours" and come up with a whole new bunch of people to add to the tree? Where do these people come from?

@Tom - I have not even scratched the surface of adding every family member in my offline files. "These people" come from years and years of collaborative family genealogy record building.

What I wonder is how you've overcome the brick walls? I too have been researching for many years but some ancestors just don't want to be found it seems.

    Hi.

@Ace: I can't tell how that link sheds any light on my question.

@Scott: Oh, the years of collaborate effort explains it. I didn't know about that part.

@Tom - no problem fellow genealogist! You had no way of knowing the history of my family research and offline resources!

BTW - regarding Ace's reply to your post (that off-topic link that was meant as a joke last month), Ace is known for picking fights and using sarcasm to "attack" fellow forum members. He has been trying to bait me into "flaming him" (i.e. blasting him and breaking the forum rules), but I am trying not to let that happen. So to answer your question...Ace's reply to your post had nothing to do with it at all, it was a poke/jab at me, he only used you as the vessel.

Good luck family hunting and tree building, if you have any questions don't hesitate to email me, hope to see you on "The Tree" soon!

Is there any way to see if my tree merges with yours at all, and then merge them? I have Pres. Eisenhower in mine.

@phayd Pres. Eisenhower has at least THREE records in the big tree (and a dozen more not connected):

    http://www.geni.com/people/Dwight-David-Eisenhower/6000000001744951936
    http://www.geni.com/people/Dwight-David-Eisenhower/6000000000808036078

So yes, a merge should be possible.

Ill do it if you send me a family group invite http://www.geni.com/profile/index/6000000001915020024
and send me a message to say to merge Eisenhower....I just merged 2 of them now

@Kris - if you subtract all the family groups that you are in, how many branches do you have to your Geni tree before merging with mine? Of course any help with cleaning up a tree is more than appreciated, just wondering why you like to be involved with so many (when David K posted that Family Group Discussion and we all copy and pasted our list of who's in our family groups, your list was 10 times as large as anyone's, so I have to ask)!

BTW - did your merge issues jump up? If you are itching to merge people, I have a list of over 3000 you can have fun with! And hundreds of famous people in that 3000 (presidents, actors, etc, etc)!

@ScotHibb -yes, my merge issues jumped up...to 39.....Now, I have only 2 left, that I cant fix, because one is bugged....and the other is someones claimed profile...and I've been working on merging up yours for days lol-dont worry I wont give up ....
Pablo had more than me lol but I do have a large family group....but only 4 of that entire list is on my new little "connect these people" because I actually have connected to them with the merges.....I add alot of people so that I can merge as many as possible of the same person, (ie I would like to see ONE Charlemagne on all of geni, ONE George Bush etc)....of those 4 that arent connected, 1 is because she isnt ready yet to merge....the other 3, I must be missing the peerage connection because there are just so many of them for me to get to, and since they arent added by me, Ill NEVER see them on my merge list....

I merged with yours before I uploaded my first GEDCOM file...which was 36,000 profiles or so, and that was ONE of Edmund RICEs sons descendants...I have a way to upload the rest of my file without duplicates, but its time consuming....so I wont be proceeding with that, until I've worked your merge issues down some because Im afraid of what will happen if I have 100,000+ blood relatives (geni team want to reassure me that it will be ok?) And we better get to adding people to our tree because last I read you had a bet for 6 million for the new year?? *wink* my search is working sometimes now but mostly it times out :(
